Frequently asked questions

What is included in the rental?
Full insurance, unlimited kilometres, glass coverage and tyre cover on asphalt roads are included in every rental.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
Only for cabrios, SUVs, minivans and buses. Where a deposit applies, it can be paid in cash or with a normal debit card and is cancelled or refunded when the car is returned.
Do I need a credit card?
No. A credit card is not asked for anywhere in the rental process.
What driving licence do I need?
A full, valid licence in the main driver's name. EU, EEA and UK licences are used as issued. Licences from other countries are generally accepted together with an International Driving Permit obtained before you travel; requirements can vary by rental provider.
How old do I have to be to rent a car in Rhodes?
The minimum age is 23 years for the smaller categories. 7-seaters, 9-seaters, cabriolets and SUVs require a minimum age of 25 and at least 2 years of driving experience.
What are the speed limits?
Speed limits vary by road and location. As a practical guide, visitors commonly encounter 30 km/h and 50 km/h limits in built-up areas and up to 80 km/h on some main roads. Always follow the posted speed limit and road signs. Rhodes has no motorways.
Are there animals on the roads?
Watch for animals on rural roads, especially around sunset and after dark. Goats are common in rural and mountain areas, and deer can also appear on roads. Reduce speed on bends, poorly lit roads and quieter countryside routes.
Is car rental available all year in Rhodes?
Rhodes is a seasonal car-rental destination. Most rental activity takes place during the tourist season, generally from April through the end of October, and exact operating periods vary between rental providers. July and August are the busiest months — most companies rent out all of their cars, so prebook. Outside high season, booking 2–3 days before pickup normally guarantees availability.
Can I get a car at Rhodes Airport?
Yes. The main office is 300 m from the airport, just outside the airport area — a short walk from the terminal. Provide your flight number and pickup is arranged around your actual arrival.
Can the car be delivered to my hotel?
Pickup and delivery can be arranged at many locations across Rhodes, including hotels and resorts. Available locations and delivery arrangements are shown during booking.
Are automatic cars available?
Yes, both automatic and manual cars are offered. Automatics are a smaller share of the island fleet, so book earlier in high season for more choice.
Is parking difficult?
In Rhodes Town it is not easy, especially in high season. The closest free parking is at Acandia Harbour, and Izipark offers paid parking close to the Old Town, which is largely closed to traffic. Lindos village is car-free, with parking above the village. Elsewhere parking is generally easier.
Where can I charge an electric car?
Electric cars are rented out fully charged. Public charging is concentrated around Rhodes Town and the northern resorts and is sparser in the south, so plan charging stops for longer island drives.
Can I pick up in one location and return in another?
Yes. One-way rentals between locations are commonly available, but picking up in one place and returning in another can carry additional drop-off fees, shown during booking.
